Effectiveness of Disinfection in Bacteriology Laboratories in Togo, 2021

Background: Laboratory personnel is at risk of biological contamination leading to laboratory-acquired infections (LAIs). The use disinfection products essential in the prevention these infections. This work aimed evaluate effectiveness antimicrobial agents used bacteriology laboratories Togo. Methods: was a cross-sectional study conducted from June December 2021 all Swabs taken before and after surfaces staff hands were immediately plated on agar media. Counting identification isolated colonies done 24 hours incubation. ANOVA test compare calculated means, prevalence ratio (PR) 95% confidence intervals (CI) bacterial frequencies. Results: A total 393 samples taken, which 41.2% hands. Before disinfection, more contaminated than with respectively 40.4% 29.6% (PR = 1.3; CI [0.9 - 1.9]). After surface 0.5% chlorine solution, elimination total, but partial washed soap, residual 3.7%. 108 strains Klebsiella spp. 38.9% Staphylococcus 25.0%; 4 which: 75.0% 25.0%. Conclusion: Surface effective hand washing soap water. We recommend proper washing.
